7 Day Luxury Uganda Safari: Itinerary Lodges and Cost

A 7-day luxury Uganda safari can take you from the shores of Lake Victoria to chimpanzee-filled forests, open savannah and the misty hills of Bwindi. It is a rewarding route for travellers who want to experience Uganda’s primates and wildlife in one carefully planned journey.

This sample itinerary combines Kibale National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. It can be adapted to your interests, preferred lodges and travel dates. Seven days is a fairly full schedule, so add one or two nights if you prefer a slower pace.

7-day luxury Uganda safari at a glance

  • Day 1: Arrive in Entebbe.
  • Day 2: Travel to Kibale National Park.
  • Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking and Bigodi.
  • Day 4: Travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park.
  • Day 5: Wildlife viewing and transfer towards Bwindi.
  • Day 6: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi.
  • Day 7: Return to Entebbe or continue your journey.

Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe

Welcome to Uganda. On arrival at Entebbe International Airport, meet your driver-guide and transfer to your accommodation. Depending on your arrival time, relax at the lodge or enjoy a gentle introduction to Entebbe. An overnight stay near the airport gives you time to settle in after your international flight.

Overnight: A selected luxury or comfortable boutique property in Entebbe.

Day 2: Travel to Kibale National Park

After breakfast, travel west towards Kibale. The journey takes you through towns, rural landscapes and green countryside, with opportunities for refreshments and photographs along the way. Arrive at your lodge and settle in for the evening.

Overnight: A selected lodge near Kibale National Park.

Day 3: Chimpanzee trekking and Bigodi

Enter Kibale’s forest with experienced guides in search of chimpanzees. Listen for birds and watch for other primates among the trees. Chimpanzees move freely, so sightings and the time needed to find them vary.

Later, if time and energy allow, visit Bigodi for a guided wetland or community experience. Look for birds, learn about the local environment and meet people living close to the forest.

Overnight: A selected lodge near Kibale National Park.

Day 4: Kibale to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Continue towards Queen Elizabeth National Park, travelling from forested hills towards open savannah. Depending on your route and arrival time, enjoy a game drive or a boat trip on the Kazinga Channel, known for hippos, waterbirds and wildlife that comes to the water. Activities depend on timing and availability.

Overnight: A selected safari lodge near Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Day 5: Wildlife viewing and transfer towards Bwindi

Begin with a game drive, looking for elephants, buffaloes, antelopes and, with luck, lions. Sightings are never guaranteed, but your guide will help you make the most of your time in the park.

Continue towards Bwindi. Your route and departure time depend on your lodge and gorilla permit sector. If you hope to travel through Ishasha to look for tree-climbing lions, allow enough time and understand that sightings are unpredictable. A longer itinerary makes this detour more comfortable.

Overnight: A selected lodge close to your Bwindi trekking sector.

Day 6: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi

After an early breakfast, transfer to the correct park briefing point. Rangers explain the trekking rules and allocate groups before you enter the forest.

The walk may take several hours through uneven, sometimes muddy terrain. Once the gorillas are found, you can spend up to one hour observing them, subject to the rangers’ instructions. Return to your lodge to rest. If time and energy allow, a community visit can be arranged.

Overnight: A selected lodge near your Bwindi trekking sector.

Day 7: Return to Entebbe

Return towards Entebbe by road or take a domestic flight where schedules and availability allow. Flying from a suitable airstrip can reduce the road journey, but you will need a transfer from the lodge to the airstrip.

Allow a generous connection for an international flight. Depending on the schedule, an extra night in Entebbe may be the most comfortable choice. Alternatively, your itinerary can continue into Rwanda by road, subject to visas, border procedures and onward arrangements.

How much does a 7-day luxury Uganda safari cost?

The price depends on the number of travellers, lodge category, season, permits, transport and whether you include domestic flights. A private vehicle for two is priced differently per person from one shared by four travellers.

For a meaningful quotation, share your travel dates, number of travellers, room preferences, nationality and residency for permits, preferred activities and any relevant mobility or dietary needs. Ask for a written breakdown showing whether gorilla and chimpanzee permits, park fees, meals and airport transfers are included. Pearl Nature Holidays can prepare a tailored price once these details are known.

Choosing lodges for your luxury Uganda safari

For Kibale, consider the distance from the chimpanzee briefing point. Near Queen Elizabeth National Park, consider the activities you want and where they begin. In Bwindi, make sure your lodge matches your assigned gorilla trekking sector. Ask about room type, meal plan, accessibility and transfer times before confirming.

Domestic flights and luggage restrictions

If your itinerary includes a bush flight, pack light. AeroLink Uganda lists a 15 kg allowance in soft bags on its services. Confirm the allowance for your flight, including whether camera equipment and hand baggage count towards the total. Ask about excess baggage or storage before travel, as extra luggage may depend on aircraft capacity.

Visa, border and health information

For a Uganda-only safari, check whether your nationality requires a visa and apply online in advance if required. If you plan to cross into Rwanda or travel between Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya, ask whether the East Africa Tourist Visa is suitable. When applying before travel, use your country of first entry.

Before departure, speak with a travel-health professional about malaria prevention, recommended vaccinations and personal health concerns. Uganda’s immigration authority says a yellow fever certificate is no longer mandatory for entry, but check the requirements for every country on your route and carry any certificate you need.

Bring travel insurance covering trekking, medical treatment and emergency evacuation. If you become ill before a primate trek, notify your guide or the park team.

What to pack for a 7-day Uganda safari

  • Broken-in hiking boots and comfortable long trousers.
  • Long-sleeved shirts, a light rain jacket and a warm layer.
  • A soft-sided travel bag and a small daypack.
  • Insect repellent, sunscreen and a reusable water bottle.
  • Binoculars, a camera, spare batteries and waterproof covers.
  • Medication, prescription copies and travel documents.

Can this itinerary be customised?

Yes. Add another night in Queen Elizabeth National Park, extend your stay in Bwindi, include Lake Bunyonyi or add Rwanda. More time also allows for photography, community visits and relaxation between transfers.
